Shortwood Teachers’ college is an ecofriendly institution training males and females for the teaching profession and offering degrees in education accredited for the early childhood, primary and secondary education levels.
This institution is also a Green Business that has been accredited by NEPA 2022-2023 for gold in environmental awareness and training and silver in waste management, water efficiency, chemical management and energy efficiency.
Shortwood Teachers’ College programmes are accredited by the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (TCJ) and our degrees are granted by The University of the West Indies. We offer quality degrees and certification.
Shortwood Teachers’ College offers a high level of education that meets the standards set by the Ministry of Education here in Jamaica.
As part of our offering, the students receive face-to-face training and teaching practice, which takes them into assigned schools in our education system.

Shortwood Teachers’ College was founded on September 28, 1885 by the Rt. Rev. Enos Nutall, then Archbishop of the West Indies. The College originally known as Jamaica Women’s College opened as a female training institution. Shortwood became co-educational in 2001.
Shortwood Teachers’ College is a teacher training institution that prepares students for the education sector. The college is currently led by Nadine A. Molloy (Interim Principal). She, along with the other members of her management team, direct the academic and administrative activities of the College.
